Ford Celebrates 100 Years With Vehicle Fashion

What can you build out of tail lights, engine parts and safety belts besides a 2012 Ford Focus? Here at Keller Bros Ford, we have a hard time imagining anything except a car, but some crafty designers in the UK were up to the challenge, and designed a dress and a necklace out of car parts.
Why would they do such a thing? Well, after 100 years in the United Kingdom, Ford wanted to celebrate a bit differently than other automakers, and sent out the call to designers to create something fashionable out of the Focus. Two icons stepped up to the plate, and the things they came up with are quite impressive, we have to say.
Scottish Designer of the Year nominee, Judy Clark, created a dress using silk, buckles and lights. The former Alexander McQueen intern says, "My reaction when they approached me was one of delight to be a part of such a unique project as it's very different from what I normally do. I would say that the inspiration for the dress was taken from the Edwardian period and I actually started to design to dress before the car parts arrived."1
To accompany the dress, Ford asked designer Katherine Hawkins to design a necklace. Hawkins based her design on vintage sci-fi movies like 'Metropolis,' and a futuristic and funky necklace emerged. She says, "When the box of car parts arrived, I didn't really know what to expect, but once I got them spread out to see how they look and sit and how I could work with them, the idea came very quickly and I was able to use really cool metals, plastics and rubbery bits!"2
You won't find any catwalk ready fashions here at Keller Bros Ford, but you will find an entire lineup of eye-catching new Ford models, including the 2012 Mustang and new Escape. Stop in and see us at 250 Schaeffer Rd Lebanon, PA 17042, or contact us online at your convenience to learn more.
