Ford Starts Producing Vehicles in Russia

Sales of cars and trucks in Russia have ranged near 2.6 to 2.7 million so far in 2011 - well above the Association of European Businesses prediction of 2.45 million. Between 2009 and 2011, Russian vehicle sales have shot up over 30 percent. Ford is taking advantage of this by ramping up production in the country.

"Demand remains strong," according to US-Russia Ford CEO Ted Cannis, who took over last month and has seen thise shot up of sales. The Ford Explorer and Ford Transit Connect are two of the best sellers in Russia, and production of these particular models will move to that country.1

Russia also plans on gaining government financial incentives towards hybrids, as well as alternative fuel cars, in order to lessen the country's dependence of fossil fuels. Prices of such are continuing to rise there as well.

Ford will begin production of Ford Transit vans and Ford Explorers at Former Soller factories in 2012. But the cars and trucks available at Keller Bros Ford in Lebanon, PA are still built right here in the United States
